Con un sujeto plural, nos, os y se dicen «el uno al otro»: Marta y Pedro se abrazan. Ana y yo nos vemos poco. Es el mismo pronombre de la lección anterior, pero ahora la acción va de cada uno hacia el otro, no hacia sí mismo.

With a plural subject, the same nos / os / se you learnt for reflexives can mean 'each other'. Se abrazan is 'they hug each other', nos vemos is 'we see each other', se escriben is 'they write to each other'. Spanish does not need a separate phrase for it — one pronoun does both jobs, and only the plural subject makes the reciprocal reading possible.

A veces las dos lecturas son posibles: «se miran» puede ser cada uno a sí mismo o el uno al otro. Para dejarlo claro añadimos «el uno al otro», «entre ellos» o «entre ellas»: Se escriben entre ellos. Y «entre» es la preposición de en medio: entre la casa y el parque, entre amigos.

Sometimes both readings fit: se miran could be 'they look at themselves' or 'they look at each other'. When it matters, Spanish adds a phrase — el uno al otro, entre ellos, entre ellas: Se escriben entre ellos. That word entre is your new preposition, 'between' or 'among': entre la casa y el parque, entre amigos, entre todos.

Cuando dos pronombres átonos van juntos, el orden es fijo: primero se, después el de segunda persona (te, os), después el de primera (me, nos) y al final el de tercera (lo, la, los, las, le). Por eso decimos «se lo digo», «te lo digo», «me lo dice». Nunca «lo te digo» ni «me se dice».

When two unstressed pronouns stand together, the order never varies: se first, then the second person (te, os), then the first (me, nos), then the third-person object (lo, la, los, las). That is the se – te – me – lo ladder. It gives you se lo digo, te lo digo, me lo dice — and it rules out lo te digo and the famous mistake me se, which some speakers say and no standard variety accepts. Learn the ladder once and every pair falls into place.
