La casa de Ana
Ana, where do you live?
I live in a house with Marta. Are you coming today?
I'm on my way. And what about the house?
One door, two windows, three bedrooms and a kitchen.
Three bedrooms!
Yes. Marta works in one bedroom and I rest in another.
And what do you do in the kitchen?
In the kitchen I eat, talk and read. We live well.
Explicación · Explanation
La casa, la puerta, la ventana, la habitación, la cocina. Las cinco palabras van con «la».
All five words of this lesson are feminine, so all five take la — a small mercy while you are learning them. Two of them are safe bets: casa and cocina end in -a, and words in -ción, like habitación, are feminine without exception. Why a Spanish noun has a gender at all, and what to do with the ones that lie about it, is the work of level 3.
En plural: las casas, las puertas, las ventanas, las cocinas — y las habitaciones, sin tilde.
Add -s and you have the plural, exactly as in the dialogue: dos ventanas, tres habitaciones. Notice that habitación loses its tilde in the plural: habitación but habitaciones. Nothing has changed in the word except its length, and the accent rules of level 8 will show you why the mark is no longer needed.
«En casa» es «at home». «En la casa» es dentro de la casa. Y «voy a casa» es «I go home».
Drop the article and casa stops being a building and becomes home: estoy en casa, voy a casa, como en casa. Keep the article and you are talking about the physical house: en la casa de Marta. One regional note: habitación is the everyday word for a bedroom in Spain, while much of Latin America says cuarto or dormitorio, and Mexico says recámara — all four are correct in their own place.

Ahora hablas tú, en voz alta. Cuentas la casa: «Una puerta, ________ ventanas, ________ habitaciones y una cocina».
Describe your own home the way Ana does, counting as you go — the numbers of the last two lessons come back here. Then say one sentence for each room, with a verb you already have: en la cocina como, en la habitación duermo, en la casa trabajo. Finish with voy a casa, said as one smooth phrase.
