«Me llamo Ana». La pregunta a un amigo: «¿Cómo te llamas?». La pregunta por otra persona: «¿Cómo se llama?». Tres piezas fijas: me, te, se.

me llamo Ana is literally 'I call myself Ana' — the everyday way to give your name. Learn the three pieces whole for now: me llamo (I), te llamas (you, to a friend), se llama (he, she, or someone you address politely). The verb is llamarse, and level 5 takes the little words me / te / se apart properly.

El nombre va primero: Diego. El apellido va después: Herrera. En el mundo hispano una persona usa dos apellidos: Herrera Ruiz.

nombre is the first name, apellido the surname. Across the Spanish-speaking world people normally carry two surnames — the father's first, then the mother's — so Diego Herrera Soto is a Herrera and a Soto. Neither surname is dropped at marriage, and in daily life only the first one is used.

«Señor» y «señora» van con el apellido: señor Herrera, señora López.

Use señor and señora with the surname, never with the first name: señora López, not 'señora Elena'. They stay in lower case inside a sentence and abbreviate to Sr. and Sra. Much of Latin America and southern Spain use don and doña with the first name instead — don Diego, doña Carmen — a warm, respectful register.
